That’s how this was conceived of, Nick, a retelling of the story from the whale’s POV.
You owe it to yourself to read Moby-Dick in this life, if nothing else but the prose, which is the finest English since Milton. It’s fine to skip the “theory” bits about what is a whale on first reading (they tend to bog down first-time readers) and go for it simply as a kind of epic adventure purely.
Oh, it is indeed beautiful. I’ve always sympathized with the whale, and though I’ve grown into some understanding of and sympathy for Ahab, it’s not much. The whale’s perspective is such a great, slow pondering. A bewilderment, rage, and finally a kind of peace. I loved this!
Thanks so much Lyndsey - the first version was first person from the whale's POV and it didn't quite work. Redrafted this way and it just about passes. Cheers!
ive never read moby dick... but this is his telling, yes? poor old fellow! somewhat heart breaking.

Thank you so much Liz, it's high praise indeed coming from you!
That was beautiful. The whale's perspective perfectly voiced. I loved this.

Dude you're on a tear. Another killer. Really enjoyed this one. Need to shower off all this brine.
Thanks so much Shony!
Always a pleasure to read your work. I always come away inspired.
Fuck me. As someone who re-reads Moby Dick fairly regularly all I have for this is a round of applause. Well done.
