Perfection! You are a master. The best stories, for me, are the ones that subvert my expectations and surprise me again and again. This one did just that. 👏

Thanks, it's so satisfying to have great authors like yourself appreciate my work. After being rejected by lit journals I was wondering if this was in fact as good as I believed it. Your and others' appreciation makes me think that maybe it is.

[In fact I think I'll revive my Spanish-language translations and see if I can get some interest with this one in Spanish.]

Do you ever find yourself enjoying the lit mag stories though? I find them mostly pretentious and dull, as if the author was just checking off plot points they learned in some classroom somewhere. A rejection from a publisher like that is an indication you may be doing it right. 😆

I'm beginning to think you have a serious point there...

its really really good. the fact that it's got humour and ridiculousness woven through it makes the message all the stronger in my mind. i would read your stuff every day.

No better fate can be imagined for a bad guy named after a Panzer general! Great stuff, Murph.

Trust a tankboy to spot that little Eastern Front easter egg. Thanks baybee, I'm appreciative of your great comments!

Your novella is next up for me after ST McDonnell's book, BTW. I'm hoping to get into it this weekend, just reading the intro para for a taster got me salivating - such a class noir opening!

this is so good i just cant find the words.

its horror but hilarious. so inventive... and deeply moral. the hyperbole is a warning cry of where we really are headed. for all its ridiculousness, its deeply serious when you think about it... the lake of infinite shit is filling isnt it...

and Horvid Manteuffel? 5 stars for that name alone.

Thanks very much Nick. We are indeed in pursuit of something very shit-like in order to replace all the good stuff we had up to this point. So it's indeed a moral fable like those fairy tales with some cheeky easter eggs hidden here and there designed to (hopefully?) explode like mental grenades at some later stage.

Manteuffel has been rightly identified by Bradley as the name of a Nazi general, but he also means Man-Devil, which is the kind of entity we have called into existence to lead us on a Sorcerer's Apprentice dance to oblivion. May Karl protect us...

should be renamed weirdness kit.

loved it.

loved the thought of a main character with a surgically extended dong waving in the breeze.

and you've taken an idea and taken it to absurd levels. Many giggles. And just desserts.

thanks for sharing this with me.

Happy you enjoyed it, Geoffrey, hope you drop in on my weirdness for a taste or two more of what's on offer.

It's not always a barrel of laughs - some of the stories get pretty dark - but I promise that it's never dull.
