just fucking superb. and ... like... its my childhood years. its opening all the doors. the video and collages and words mash up...
its a work of art. I just wish there was a way that ALL the media could be ingested all at the same time.
Like... a giant orifice that you slip into (NAKED OBVS) and the inner surface is collage RUBBING your skin and screens showing the video and the words and there's the music and a voice reading the words and you're getting all SEX PARTS dealt with both ways at the same time. optional cocaine for those that want it. IS THAT TOO MUCH TO ASK??? warm shower and fresh towels after.
Such a delightful polymorphously perverse image, Nick... puts me in mind of Cronenberg's Naked Lunch. Funny you should mention those years, I had a mate years ago who was part of Elton John's crew before he (Elton, that is) got all dull and royal-arselick-smarmy. Wild stories.
I really had my hedonistic years in the post-punk grungy 80s-90s so a certain amount of this is back-projection - in the 70s I mostly used to like Abba and ELO. For JW, by contrast, it's *all* historical reconstruction, as he's a young sprog with no memories of that time.
But a flavour of those years hearing Bowie's Golden Years on Radio One and wondering what the deal was with The Man Who Fell to Earth has crept in. Pure nostalgia, but for a time that never really existed.
Basically like what we did before, you and I, but with quite a lot of overlaying - the accretion process means the first-person bits are 80% JW and 20% me and the third-person bits are 80% me and 20% JW. The best bits literally have sentences written by both of us at once.
Very interesting. Yes, I can tell in reading that there is a lot of overlap while I still recognized your voices. Your third-person is a little unmistakable.
unmistakable is the correct word. it was a very fun challenge for me in the editing process to channel that Murph voice when inserting and changing some bits in the third person sections. I feel a wee bit more English than I did more before

I'm thinking it rubbed off a little bit in the Caribou piece you just did which has some of that orotund mouth-feel
Wondering if Steve Ignorant, Penny Rimbaud, Sid, Joe Strummer, etc would’ve been pals with the band haha
